I, and other investors, residents and workers in Nuweiba, have, over the past couple of days, just learned of the plans of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company to build a very large power plant, ( 750Mw gas powered turbines on a site of 105000 square metres - towering over 82 metres in height ), in the middle of Nuweiba, South Sinai, Egypt.” …

HEPCA response to Power Plant

“Dear All, We have been closely watching with great concern the news about the establishment of a new power plant in Nuweiba city in South Sinai. Although HEPCA has experienced extensive pressure to decisively respond with a statement condemning such a decision and taking all possible legal action, we have decided to deliberate over the issue in order to thoroughly examine the situation.

We are especially keen, as is any other environmental agency working in Egypt, to ensure that any project undertaken in Egypt is directed towards the support and enhancement of the livelihood of our own people. We have immediately commissioned a group of experts to comprehensively examine the situation.

Their examination will be based on the published environmental impact assessment (EIA), which is required by the Ministry of Environment for project approval and permits. Without the approval of the EEAA and the Ministry of Environment this project will not be executable.

We have been in contact with the environmental impact department of the EEAA and we have been given the confirmation that this project did not receive any approvals from their part. Furthermore, the project has not submitted the EIA”….

airlines promote new destinations

…Once again, the low-cost carriers are the latest to launch new flights to Egypt. Destinations include Alexandria (flydubai) and Hurghada (Jazeera Airways), which both draw in tourists seeking places with a Mediterranean influence.

Alexandria has a cosmopolitan buzz, while Hurghada on Egypt’s Red Sea coast boasts stunning coral reefs and turquoise waters.

This is one of the most common causes of lower abdominal pain. In a typical case, the patient feels pain around the umbilical area; this is followed by shifting of the pain towards the lower right side of the abdomen.

It may be accompanied by nausea (sometimes even vomiting), loss of appetite, low grade fever, constipation or diarrhea. But this is not the usual. The pain may start anywhere, and may take any form. So, don't depend on your diagnostic skill; it's the clinical examination that counts.

There are few personal observations about appendicitis:

The person often has colon problem, and treated as such for a long time. When an acute appendicitis attack starts, it is thought to be the colon again! The patient resumes his usual treatment, but the symptoms get worse. The risk of rupture of the appendix (perforation) depends on how long the patient can tolerate the pain. The longer he is late to see a doctor, the more the risk will be.

Patients are usually reluctant to have surgery. They try to find a way out; and this way out is a blood test or an ultrasound imaging. Of course they are useful tools; but a negative result does not exclude the diagnosis. Remember that the diagnosis is mainly a clinical one (depending on clinical examination).

The attack occurs almost always when the patient is not ready for it (night of an exam, just before an important trip, sometimes even in the wedding day!). That's because he probably had a previous attack, and neglected it. Anyway, try to be swift to find a reliable physician.

If he is confident about the diagnosis, he will refer you to the surgeon. Again, if the case is not complicated, the surgeon will remove the appendix through a simple surgery, and you can go home the following day.

Clean Sharm

Dear All,

Until now our Clean Ups have been organised by only two and in the end one person. Since Khaled is getting to busy to further do this, we want to start a group that takes care of the Clean Ups. Our aim is also to get more people to attend these clean ups, get the hotels, dive centres and other businesses involved, and find a good structure and action plan.

In order to do this we will have a first orientation meeting on:
Thursday the 4th of June in the "La Favola" Restaurant in Delta Sharm @ 20.00 / 8pm
