News

Jazeera Airways

Jazeera Airways

DUBAI (6 Apr 2009) — Shopping online for an airline ticket is set to go to another level with a regional airline offering a "Happy Hour" price of as little as 3 Kuwaiti Dinars (USD 10.3).

Kuwait and Dubai based low fares airline Jazeera Airways today launched the Jazeera Airways Happy Hour on its website, offering a special offer daily on a selected number of routes, from 1.00pm to 2.00pm Kuwait time, seven days a week for the next 365 days.

To kick off today's Happy Hour; passengers can book fares from just 3 KD one way on jazeeraairways.com between 1.00pm and 2.00pm, to a selected number of the airline's 29 destinations including Dubai, Mumbai and Sharm El Sheikh.

New Happy Hour fares on a variety of routes will be available daily, for travel periods that range right up to the end of the Jazeera's published schedule, the statement said.

British freediver Sarah Campbell blacks out attempting to break her own world record

News

British freediver Sara Campbell

British freediver Sara Campbell

British freediver Sarah Campbell blacked out as she attempted to set a new world record by diving to a depth of 100 metres and back in a single breath.

Miss Campbell, 37, originally from Wandsworth in south London, had only broken the women's world record days earlier with a depth of 96 meters.

The yoga instructor uses a mermaid-style monofin to help propel herself into deep water. She attempted the dive in an underwater chamber off Long Island in the Bahamas.

Although she collected a tag at the 100 meter mark, she lost consciousness as she made it back to the surface of the Atlantic, therefore disqualifying herself.

Speaking about the incident, she said: "I'm fine, feel good and after a few days rest will be ready to give it another go - and hold it together on the surface next time."

Under is Ms Campbell's speciality, "constant weight" freediving, competitors must not use any breathing apparatus but they are allowed to use the monofin.

A plunge line acts as a visual guide into the deep where, at a pre-set depth, diver must collect a tag and begin their ascent. As divers enter the water a "mammalian dive reflex" is set off, with blood directed away from the limbs and towards the core organs.

As water pressure increases the airspace in the lungs gets smaller, but capillaries in the lungs get bigger, actually allowing more oxygen into the blood. The most dangerous part of the dive is the ascent, when this process happens in reverse, and there is a danger of blackout with oxygen being drawn back into the lungs as they expand.

Miss Campbell, known as Mighty Mouse because at 5ft she is the smallest diver on the circuit, took the freediving community by storm in 2007 when she broke three world records in 48 hours, only seven months after her first competitive dive and nine months after taking up the sport.

Like other freedivers, she has larger than average lungs, with about 22 per cent greater capacity than normal. Last week she broke the record in Dean's Blue Hole, Long Island, holding her breath for three minutes and 36 seconds, diving 96 metres and safely returning to the surface.

Shark & Yolanda Reef - Ras Mohammed National Park

If Ras Mohamed is the most spectacular diving area in the Sinai, then Shark and Yolanda reefs are its prized diving spots.

This dive is best done as a drift dive starting from Shark Reef and continuing to Yolanda Reef. These are 2 twin mountain-like peaks rising up from a sandy sea bed that is spread out deep below the surface.

Being not far from Anemone City, which is a good drop in location, the site's eastern end is a sheer, vertical wall.

Every possible fish species is found here, including hammerheads, gigantic tuna and a menagerie of other pelagics. An ever present school of barracuda and snappers are residents and it's a great place to see giant moray eels and a variety of sting rays.

The other side, facing the west, is much shallower and constitutes part of the plateau that surrounds Yolanda Reef. There are literally thousands of jackfish, batfish and all kinds of sting rays on the densely coralled saddle. Scorpionfish are regularly spotted here, although it is quite a rare sight elsewhere.

Finish your dive above the wreckage of the 'Yolanda', a wreck that made this reef its final resting place in the 70's. Its cargo of British standard toilets and bath tubs remain on and forever as part of the shallow reef.

Shark & Yolanda Reef Basics:Submerged reef
Depth: 10 - >40m
Visibility: 10 - 25m
Currents: Can be strong
Surface Conditions: Generally calm
Water Temperature: 22 - 28°C
Experience Level: Intermediate - Advanced

Diving Season: All year round
Distance: 15 km South of Sharm El Sheikh
Access: Daytrips and liveaboards

How To Simplify Life Simplify Life? It CAN Be Done -Simply!

Lifestyle
Top Tips On Being More Positive

stressed person

Today, people tend to work longer hours, have their kids involved in more activities, and generally maintain a busier style of life than even a few years ago. This can be exciting and enriching, but it can also lead to a feeling of constant stress and chaos. If you’re looking for ideas on how to simplify life, you’re not alone -- the concept of 'voluntary simplicity' has been gaining popularity since the 1990s because so many people have felt the same. Here are some of the main ways you can reduce the stress of a life that’s packed to the hilt while still maintaining the activities that are important to you.

Clear Clutter
Many stressed people live in cluttered homes. But, house clutter is both an effect and a cause of stress. Clutter can bring a general feeling of uneasiness, and can literally drain your energy, but getting rid of it is difficult for stressed people with busy schedules. One strategy to simplify life by clearing clutter is to take 15 or 30 minutes each night to tackle one pile at a time, decluttering your house space by space. Another strategy is to take several hours one weekend and just be done with it. Either way, you’ll remove a subtle but significant energy drain from your life, and replace it with the feelings of relaxation that come from having your home be a haven from stress. (Be sure to maintain order once you achieve it.)

Cut Out Negative Relationships
You may already be aware of the value of solid, supportive relationships in your life -- the friend who picks you up when your down, celebrates with you when you’re happy, and shares events your life as they happen. You may not be as aware of the effects of conflicted relationships -- the critical, unpredictable, or uber-competitive friend. It turns out that these 'toxic friendships' actually drain us more than purely negative relationships. This is because we don’t always have strong defenses against the people who are sometimes nice to us, so we can get taken off-guard. If you’re wondering how to simplify life, save yourself grief, frustration and drama if you take an honest look at the relationships in your life and decide which are worth maintaining and which should be let go.

Automate What You Can
Getting some of the daily, weekly and monthly work of your life into an automated system can help simplify life and relieve stress in two ways: You don’t have to take time to do the work, and you don’t have to clutter your mind by remembering to do the work. Making little changes that take steps out of your daily routine like setting up automatic timers to water your plants or turn off your lights, signing up for automatic bill pay options, or getting off junk mail lists can be an easy way to simplify life. By putting in a little initial work, you can then forget about it.

Live Within Your Means
To say that money can’t buy happiness is cliché. We all pretty much know this, and research has supported it as well. The truth, in fact, is that money can’t even buy you out of financial stress if you don’t spend less than you make. Many people who make large amounts of money simply spend more, and carry large amounts of debt, leading to feelings of stress rather than abundance. The key to avoiding this type of financial stress is simple, but not always easy: Live within your means. This can be a difficult change at first, but one that will bring great rewards, and can significantly lower your stress levels if you’re not living within your means already.

Learn To Say No
While many people spend as much money as they possibly can, leaving themselves feeling stretched to the limit, too many of us also budget our time this way. With demands from work, school and life in general, it’s easy to become overscheduled these days. However, if you’re always rushing from one place to another, you may find yourself exhausted, but with no time left to relax. While most of us have busy schedules these days, it’s important to schedule in time for exercise, hobbies and other stress relievers, as well as time for our relationships. One way to find this time is to get better at saying no to time demands that aren’t serving you. After you trade some of your more taxing obligations with some more self-nurturing ones, you should see a lasting change in your stress level, and find yourself living a more simplified life.
