Jordan & Egypt plan regular routes between Red Sea resorts |

Jordan and Egypt plan to run regular boat shuttles between their Red Sea resorts to combat a decline in tourism since violence swept the Palestinian territories nearly three years ago, an official said Tuesday.
Jordan’s Transport Ministry Secretary General Alaa Batayneh said an agreement, in principle, had been reached with Egypt to run cruises between Aqaba, 350–kilometers south of the capital, and resorts in the Egyptian Sinai on the Red Sea.
Batayneh said the Arab Bridge Maritime Company (ABMC) a state firm owned jointly by Jordan, Egypt and Iraq would begin two cruises per week between Aqaba and Egypt’s Sharm El Sheikh this week.
He told AP that the trips would later include stops in Egypt’s Hurghada and Safaga.
ABMC has bought a third speedboat with a maximum capacity of 660 passengers to serve the routes, he added.

Tourists might associate Egypt with the Pyramids and the Sphinx, but the Ministry of Tourism is hoping that the country will also become known as a leader in sustainability. In 2008, a number of new programmes were launched to protect Egypt's natural resources and preserve its cultural heritage.
An increasing number of visitors means that Egypt is more concerned than ever about protecting its environment, even as it works to promote a growing array of diverse tourist destinations.

An example of the Red Sea's sudden prominence as a travel destination was its recent appearance on The New York Times' list of "44 Places to Go in 2009." But in an earlier article, the paper had warned that Hurghada, the region's main resort, has already seen much of its natural beauty eroded, and that visitors are better off diving from smaller coastal towns such as Ain Sukhna or Safaga, or even forgoing the region all together in favour of the Sinai Peninsula.
In a bid to reduce the environmental impact of the growing influx of tourists while maximising economic opportunity, the Tourism Development Authority (TDA)Tourism Development Authority (TDA) and Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) partnered in 2005 with the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to launch the Livelihoods and Income from the Environment (LIFE) programme. The $20.5m initiative ended in September of last year and focused on three major components of environmental protection in Egypt : integrated water resources management; lead pollution remediation and clean-up in the Qalyoubia governorate; and support for sustainable economic growth in the Red Sea governorate. The Red Sea region in particular received $12.7m, with funding going toward technical support, the implementation of new training programmes and fostering general awareness of environmental issues. More specifically, LIFE helped design community-based solid waste systems in Marsa Alam, Hamata and Shalateen, along with a house reef management system for Red Sea hotels. The partnership also helped the EEAA to designate 14 islands in the Red Sea as protected territory, thus preserving approximately 17,000 sq km of sensitive habitat.

Try golf at the driving range or even pitch and putt!
Getting started is not as difficult as you might think. While many golf courses are for members only and can be difficult to get into, your options are not just narrowed down to playing on a lovingly tended 18-hole club course.
Initially, you won’t want to hit the golf course unless you have at least some competency at the game. While everyone has been a beginner at some point, there is no worse sight than someone taking swing after swing (and divot after divot) while on the golf course.
If you have not tried the game at all, then you might want to consider buying just one club, perhaps a high numbered iron and then lofting the ball around your local park (provided hitting a golf ball around hasn’t been banned there and it is VERY quiet!).
Another alternative would be to visit your local pitch and putt, or even crazy golf. You can get a feel for the game (or just have a laugh) and see whether golf may be something you really fancy turning your hand to. The golf driving range (usually with row after row of keen golfers) is another option for the beginner. Tuition is usually available on site and now more and more venues are also adding small pitching and putting areas.
A golf professional is the best person to advise you and if you really fancy getting to grips with golf, you should seek one out.
Every club will have their own golf professional who will be able to provide expert tuition.

1. Feed your pet a high-quality diet. Select food made by companies known for staying current on the latest nutritional research. Your veterinarian can recommend the best diet for your pet based on factors including age, health and lifestyle.
2. Offer fresh food and water every day. Also, remember to wash bowls regularly.
3. Feed your pet the correct amount of food. Determine portions according to your pet's weight and avoid overfeeding. Use feeding recommendations on the pet food label as a guide and adjust for activity level. Your veterinarian can help determine the correct amount to feed your pet.
4. Follow a daily feeding schedule. This will help your pet maintain normal elimination habits and avoid indoor accidents. Most pets do better when fed two smaller meals rather than one large meal.
5. Avoid people food. Your pet's digestive system is simpler than yours and can be easily upset by feeding him or her table scraps. Feeding from the table makes it more difficult to control calorie intake which can lead to weight problems.
6. Watch the treats. It's often not the dog or cat food fed to the pet that adds unwanted pounds but high calorie treats multiple times a day.
7. Consult your veterinarian for exercise needs. If you’re considering adding a pet to the family, first determine the pets need for exercise and whether those can be blended into your lifestyle. Your dog needs a walk at least once a day. If the pet has been inactive, start slowly gradually increasing the pace and length. Find a schedule that works for both of you whether a short walk twice a day or one long walk.
8. Help your cat stay active. Overweight cats are at risk for medical conditions such as diabetes and arthritis. There are a variety of toys designed to help your cat stay fit and active.
