On December 8 we will celebrate another Eid el-Adha, the Big Feast or the Feast of Sacrifice. Sharm will be crowded by Cairoens. Many New Sharmers do not know much about the Islamic feasts. Following what you should know.
It takes place approximatedly seventy days after the Eid el-Fitr at the end of the month of Ramadan, The Eid el-Adha coincides with the end of the pilgrimage to Mecca; the culmination of the pilgrimage, the Day of Arafat, is the day before the Eid. This is when the pilgrims spend the day in prayer and devotion on Mt. Arafat, where the Prophet Mohammed delivered his last sermon.
The Eid el-Adha is a celebration of the obedience to God shown by the Prophet Ibrahim because he was ready to sacrifice his firstborn son when asked. Ibrahim was rewarded for being a true believer when a sheep appeared in the place of Ismail, and it was sacrificed instead. For this reason, Moslems slaughter either a sheep, or if they are able to afford it, a cow, to commemorate Ibrahim's trust in God. The family only keeps a third of the meat, another third is for relatives, and the rest is distributed to the poor.
If people have space to keep an animal, they will buy their sheep or cow well before the Eid in order to fatten it up, so you may hear bleating and mooing in your neighborhood in the days leading up to the Eid. Usually people make arrangements with their butcher to come and slaughter the animal, but you will also see men going through the streets yelling out "gazzar", butcher, hoping to be hired. Another thing you might notice after the Eid, if you drive along Magra el-Oyoun Street next to the Aqueduct, are the towering wooden racks of drying sheepskins, because this is the neighborhood of the tanners.
There is a special dawn prayer on the morning of the first day of the Eid. If you live near a mosque with a microphone, you will hear the congregation reciting over and over again: "Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, la illah il Allah" (God is great, God is great. There is no god but God). Then people return home for a special early breakfast of a dish called "fatta", which consists of meat and rice with sauce and bread soaked in broth. Throughout the four days of the Eid relatives all visit each other, and adults, particularly the uncles of the family, give the children gifts of money.
Everyone wishes everyone else a happy Eid with the expression 'kulla sana wa inta tayyib" to a male, and "kulla sana wa inti tayyiba" for a female, In fact, this greeting can be used for any holiday! You may also hear people say "Eid mubarak", meaning "blessed Eid".

Following a decree from H.E. Eng. Magdy El Qubaisy, Governor of the Red Sea, it is now prohibited to sell or use any kind of paint materials containing the chemical compound Tributyltin (TBT).
This chemical has been commonly used in anti-fouling paints that protect ship’s hulls from unwanted marine growths. However, it has been strongly linked to damage and death of marine life, as well causing harmful effects to the environment and wider public health. This decree follows similar legislation throughout the world.
Please ensure that you now purchase TBT-free paints only. This decree also enforces the marking of all such paint containers with the TBT-free sign.

Hurghada property is especially desirable in Egypt because of its low prices and the resorts reputation as an excellent destination for water sports such as sailing, diving, snorkelling and sea fishing. It is also popular amongst the young for it nightlife.
The Government in Egypt is striving to create and promote investment incentives for potential buyers and are also making things like the freehold ownership of buying property in Egypt easier to acquire for overseas property buyers. As the procedures for buying property in Hurghada and the rest of Egypt continue to improve, so the appeal of the region and country increases and this is having a direct bearing on property prices. A property investor wishing to purchase property in Egypt right could be buying into a prolonged period of growth.

Ahly set World Club Cup departure date, Jose calls for reasonable ambition |

CAIRO: Ahly's football committee has decided that the football team will depart to Japan to participate in the FIFA World Club Cup on Dec. 5.
The timing will be one week ahead of the competition's launch, as Ahly look to adapt with the Japanese climate and surroundings before their first game against Pachuca of Mexico on Dec. 13.
In a related issue, Ahly officials have asked the Egyptian embassy in Mexico to facilitate obtaining video footages of some Pachuca games.
The Red Devils' official website stated that the team's technical staff wants to collect as much information as possible about the CONCACAF champions.
Meanwhile, Ahly boss Manuel Jose urged club fans to be reasonable in their ambitions when the Reds take part in the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup next month.
The African champions made it to Japan for the third time in four years, but Jose remains calm in effect to the high expectations of fans.
"People must know that the level of football in Europe and South America is totally different from Africa," the Portuguese told Ahly TV.
"Our fans must be reasonable with their ambitions, because too many expectations could prove negative to the team."
Ahly disappointed in Japan 2005, but the six-time African champions excelled in the 2006 edition when they came third after marginally losing to then-champions International in the semis.
"When we went to Japan for the first time in 2005, fans wanted us to win the title, but we finished bottom," Jose added.
"But in 2006, we perceived the competition more realistically, and eventually we had a fine tournament."

Bring the robin into your house!
|
The robin is one of the most popular garden birds - especially with children, who love if for its red breast and its cheeky expression! Here is an unusual craft which will bring the robin out of the garden and into your house!
You will need:
- A paper plate
- Red glitter glue (or red paint)
- Brown paint
- Orange paper
- Black pen
Paint the back of the plate brown and leave to dry. Fold the plate in half.
Draw a red breast with the glitter glue on either side of the body and once again leave to dry.
Cut a triangle of orange paper to be the beak and stick in place, then draw on eyes and wings with a black pen, using our photo as a guide.

We also adapted this craft to make cards. Use a bowl or plate to draw a circle on a piece of card (or use a card blank, and draw a semi-circle on one side). Cut out. Decorate in the same way as your paper plate robin.
