Mel B renews vows |
| News |
 |
|
Mel B and her husband Stephen Belafonte renewed their wedding vows in an intimate ceremony in Egypt yesterday (08.11.08).
Mel B and her husband Stephen Belafonte renewed their wedding vows yesterday (08.11.08).
The couple flew their closest family and friends to Hurghada, Egypt, to make up for them missing their secret ceremony in Las Vegas last year.
Mel and Stephen reaffirmed their commitment to each other at the exclusive Jaz Makadi Golf Hotel in Madinat Makadi, in front of guests including Girls Aloud star Sarah Harding, and TV presenters Denise Van Outen and Fearne Cotton.
The former Spice Girls star - who has a luxury home in Egypt - will also host a lavish wedding blessing party today (09.11.08), treating guests to a picturesque Red Sea cruise.
Mel and Stephen were seen soaking up the sun shortly before their renewal ceremony yesterday. The loved-up pair sipped champagne and kissed as Mel showed off her fantastic figure in a skimpy white bikini.
Mel, 33, has admitted her Spice Girl bandmates - Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and pregnant Melanie C - weren't invited to the ceremony because she wanted it to be a low-key event.
She said: "We decided to do it for the kids and we only want it to be a real intimate affair with the 10 closest people in our lives."

Egypt has won the prestigious title of Outsourcing Destination of the Year at the National Outsourcing Association’s 2008 Awards held in London, beating rivals Philippines and Romania to the accolade.
Dr. Hazem Abdelazim, CEO of Egypt’s Information Technology Industry Development Agency, (ITIDA), received the award on behalf of his government at the ceremony attended by more than 350 high-level executives and outsourcing professionals.
“This award recognizes the vast progress Egypt has made in the outsourcing market,” said Abdelazim. “Egypt is putting its mark on the map of favoured global services locations.
“Its young population, large multi-lingual workforce, solid infrastructure and competitive cost structure is fortified by unequivocal government support, making Egypt a compelling destination for outsourcing services.”
According to the judges, Egypt won the award due to its language skills, young population and growing list of global sourcing investments. Companies like Microsoft, Vodafone, Teleperformance and Oracle recognize Egypt as an outsourcing destination for Europe.

A Khawaga’s Tale: Here comes the sun |
| News |
 |
|
We are not only on the verge of a new leader of the free world, which should be known at breakfast on Wednesday morning, but we are on the verge of the cold weather too.
By my calculations it is just a little early yet to reach for the woollies, I think we have at least another week of temperatures in the high 20s.
A few Cairenes ran for their scarf last Monday, but it warmed up over the weekend. My prediction; the temperature will drop to the low 20s on Wednesday Nov. 12 and that will be it for the warming sun until mid-February.
Cairo is a slave to the sun and with the tilt of the Earth turned towards the southern hemisphere more and more, we are getting less and less sun each day and the nights are drawing in.
The sun is now tracking low across the southern sky, with the Dec. 21 solstice fast approaching, when it will be directly over the Tropic of Capricorn, and as we are just 7° N of the Tropic of Cancer, we are thus heading towards our shortest day.
You can visit the Tropic of Cancer, approximately 23.5° N, and south of Aswan. I’ve never been, but I suspect there is a line painted on the ground at Philae Temple, where you can witness the summer solstice on June 21.
So, give it another week, and the biggest influence over our climate will be too low in the sky to keep back the moist cool air seeping in from the Mediterranean. Then reach for the scarf and winter woollies.
Egypt is a bit of a paradise for the earth science boffin. There is a divergent plate boundary, where a rift has formed between Africa and the Arabian tectonic plates, which began to part about 30 million years ago.
Thirty million is not that long in geological time; in fact the rift that runs into East Africa is the youngest geological break-up on the planet, with the Red Sea continuing to widen about 2 cm per year.
In the mountains of South Sinai veins of basalt and other volcanic intrusion streak through the granite rock giving them a striped appearance. But allegedly traces of the once volcanic past exist in the hot springs in the caves at Jebel Musa and two warm mineral springs near Tor.
In Dahab, you can scuba dive through lava tubes and I remember the Canyon dive at the Blue Hole to be some type of hollowed out lava flow.

transavia.com with operations in Denmark |
| Travel |
 |
|
The dutch low-cost fare airline transavia.com has started operations from Billund and Copenhagen airports in Denmark. “The Danish market is attractive,” says CCO Willem Hondius
Sterling Airlines, a Danish low-cost airline that transported around 4.5 million passengers a year, filed for bankruptcy on October 29, 2008. At that time, the airline discontinued all its flights with immediate effect.
Due to the disappearance of Sterling Airlines, transavia.com sees good opportunities on the Danish market.
“We see many opportunities on the charter market as well as the Danish market for regularly scheduled flights, especially for routes that appeal to tourists.” transavia.com’s activities are seasonal in nature; the airline makes more flights during the summer than in the winter. This means that the company has the capacity available to launch this operation on such short notice.
transavia.com startet operating flights for a major Danish tour operator from Billund Airport on November 6, 2008. The destinations for these flights are Fuerteventura, the Azores (Punta Delgada), Hurghada, Las Palmas and Tenerife.

Jet2.com adds another Boeing 757 at Manchester Airport |
| Travel |
 |
|
Leeds-based airline Jet2.com is to create 25 new jobs by basing another 225-seat Boeing 757 at Manchester Airport to increase capacity on new routes to Dalaman in Turkey and Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt.
The extra aircraft will also be used to increase capacity on the airline’s Tenerife and Heraklion services following the collapse of XL Airways earlier this year.
The airline says the new Dalaman route and its Sharm el Sheikh service announced last month had seen strong bookings since going on sale. No details of how much capacity would be increased by were available.

A safety guide for hotel rooms and relatives' homes
If you're going to be staying at a hotel or at a relative's house that doesn't have young children, you're going to want to bring some childproofing items along with you and get your room ready for little ones as soon as you arrive.
Staying with relatives
Make sure you talk with your relatives before you get there about what child safety precautions they've taken.
- Remind them that little hands are grabby, even if they're on their best manners.
- Ask nicely that everything valuable be moved to high points in the house or out of areas where the kids will be.
- Make sure to remind your host when you arrive about moving objects that you see that are sure to be targeted by your child.
Staying at a hotel
Here are a few tips from One Step Ahead about what you should do to make your hotel room safe for tots.
- Move dangerous items (including coffeepots, hair dryers, complimentary toiletries, drinking glasses, and dry cleaning bags) out of reach.
- Pull furniture away from windows. Make sure the windows and doors have sturdy locks (balcony doors especially).
- It the room includes a sharp-edged coffee table, either cover the edges with hand towels (you can tie or tape them on) or ask that the table be removed.
- Tie up loose blind cords. (Pipe cleaners work great for this.)
- Get down on your hands and knees and inspect for hazards such as pest poisons, peeling paint, or small items missed left behind by other guests.
- Cover exposed electrical outlets.
- Bring a childproofing kit with inexpensive outlet covers, removable, non-marring cabinet locks, and a roll-up safety gate.

30 minutes of exercise a day
can beat the bulge
|
When it comes to losing weight, we all know how the story goes.
We’re kick started with the desire to look gorgeous and hit the gym everyday and switch burgers for sushi and salads – enthusiasm which lasts for a few weeks. Then we treat ourselves to a few biscuits, a couple of nights off the workouts and very quickly the diet is a long lost memory. But how can we lose weight and really keep it off for the long run?
Check out our top tips below to find out how.
1) Don’t do fad diets
Fad diets often make broad statements that seem too good to be true – and that’s because they are.
Whether it’s the banana diet or a carb-free option, diet plans that eradicate a whole food group or more have little longevity and are likely to be broken quicker than a flash.
Diets like the Fitsquad’s low GI plan allow for a wide range of foods and concentrate on those that curb hunger – which means you are more likely to stick to the plan, as you won’t feel as peckish.
2) Don’t rely on costly treatments
Though having a shrink-wrap before your wedding day or laser therapy before you go on holiday is one thing, relying on these quick fix methods completely is another.
There is no replacement for healthy eating and good old-fashioned exercise, and both of these don’t need to cost the earth.
As soon as your funds dry up – so will the weight-loss.
3) Do change your attitude
It’s no use sticking to a stringent plan all week and then ‘treating’ yourself all weekend to whatever you like – as this gives you the message that eating healthily is a hindrance.
Staying at a weight you feel comfortable with for the rest of your life is all about understanding why choosing the right foods and taking exercise is a good choice that you are happy to make.
Hypnotherapist, Marisa Peer suggests concentrating on positive language to describe your choices in changing your lifestyle.
Repeat to yourself whenever you can that you like your new way of living and eating to give you the mind power to stick to the plan.
4) Do fit exercise into your regime
Staying at the gym for four hours every night may work in the short-term, but chances are you may have to make compromises to fit in work and family along the way.
The key is to choose exercise options that can fit nicely into your lifestyle.
Cycle or jog to work every morning, buy a pedometer and try to do 10,000 steps a day by getting off the bus a few stops early or running up and down the stairs while the dinner is cooking.
Small changes can make a big difference, and getting even as little as 30 minutes of exercise a day can beat the bulge.
