Diving with Whale Sharks in the Red Sea

Did these lucky divers witness the best ever Scuba dive in the Egyptian Red Sea? Four massive whale sharks chased a huge bait ball all day long at the Middle-Garden dive site - it was witnessed by both wide-eyed holidaying divers and incredulous dive guides.

There are many experienced professional divers in Sharm el Sheikh who will swear that 30th July 2008 saw the best days diving they have ever experienced - and this is some claim as the diving just in this part of the Red Sea can be very, very spectacular.

In the past, two dives sites have tended to monopolise the après-dive argument as to which is the best dive site in the Red Sea off the Sinai Peninsula.

Some lucky divers have experienced the thrill of diving with the school of usually shy scalloped hammerhead sharks that congregate at the back of Jackson Reef in the Straits of Tiran. The ultimate hammerhead dive - in the warm summer months - can involve up to 40 of these powerful yet majestic predators. The other contender is the famed Shark Reef at the very tip of the Sinai Peninsular. At its best, Shark Reef can be an incredible place to be with massive schools of barracuda, jacks and snappers and perhaps a silky or grey reef shark sweeping in to feed.

Meteb explains Bristol snub, agent answers back

Emad Meteb claimed on Wednesday that he was misled by his agent prior to the collapse of his move to English side Bristol City.
The Ahly striker was set to complete a 1.5-million-English-pound move to Bristol but the deal subsequently fell through.

Bristol officials were infuriated by Meteb's participation in Ahly’s Champions League victory Zamalek on July 20, one day before he was due to link up with his new teammates.

The 25-year-old frontman blamed his agent Mohamed Hamid for the deal's cancellation. "Bristol manager Gary Johnson initially rejected my request to play against Zamalek. He told me not to feature in the game," Meteb told Dream TV.

"But I was keen to take part in the match. Ahly fans were hoping to see me step onto the pitch against Zamalek and I couldn't let them down. "I then contacted Johnson once again through Hamid, who told me that the manager still refuses to give me the green light to play one last game for Ahly.

"I eventually informed Hamid that I'm ready to pen a contract which takes effect on July 21 in order to have a chance to play with Ahly one day earlier. "Hamid consulted Johnson and later told me it was ok if I participated in the game.

"But I found out that my participation caused problems and that Johnson did not agree to let me play against Zamalek."

Beach Games

Keep the kids busy on your beach vacation with plenty of fun games, toys, crafts, and learning activities. These ideas for beach games and play are easy for parents and fun for kids.

Beach Games:
Plan a Pirate Treasure Hunt. Use a plastic or wooden toy treasure chest. They're in the discount stores right now with the Pirates of the Caribbean toys. Bury the treasure box in the sand for an authentic treasure dig. You can do the treasure hunt one of two ways. Make a map with landmarks and an X for the treasure box. Or, write clues on slips of paper that lead the children from one clue to the next until they reach the treasure chest. Put a surprise in the treasure box, such as a note for the finder to get a special treat.

Beach Sports. Most don't require a lot of expensive equipment. Pack heavy-duty water guns and a beach ball for Water Squirtball. Family Fun describes the backyard version, but this is a great game for the beach. Simply draw your zones with lines in the sand. Use the big water guns to squirt the ball into your zone and keep your opponent from squirting it into his. Rubber horeshoes on the beach can be played by all ages together. Find an inexpensive set for kids and adults to play during active beachtime. Another classic beach game is kite-flying. Find one that is sturdy enough to hold up to strong ocean winds.

Wave Racing. Kids usually invent this game themselves. But, if they don't think of it, have them line up at a safe spot with floats in the ocean; catch a wave; and race to be the first to hit the beach.

Beach Darts. Use a stick to draw a huge dartboard in the sand. Put points in each ray with the most points in the small center, just like a dartboard. Use bean bags to toss and play; keep score in the sand. Family Fun recommends this game using shells and other beach finds to throw at the board.

Pregnant woman

Being pregnant in the summer has its advantages and disadvantages. You can float (if that's the right word!) around in feminine, floral clothes rather than being draped in the Chairman Mao-like black suits of winter. The longer evenings mean you can take relaxed strolls at a cooler time of day, and the sunny weather (we hope!) will add a nice colour to your pregnancy glow.

However, if you are quite far on in your pregnancy, the summer can prove to be a very uncomfortable time of year. That's why we have compiled a series of tips, with the help of some of our antenatal clubs, to help you make the most of the longer days and shorter nights.

At Work:
1) It’s easy to become dehydrated, so drink plenty of water; if you prefer hot drinks, try herbal tea or decaffeinated coffee to avoid the diuretic effect.

2) If you’re travelling, or if you don’t have a fridge at work, fill a plastic bottle to around the three-quarters mark with water and freeze it overnight. Keep it next to your water bottle during the day so your drink stays cool, and when it melts you’ll have another supply of cold water.

3) Hold your wrists in cold water for 30 seconds – it’ll cool you down.

4) Spritz your face with water.

Shopping:
1) Check out which supermarkets have air conditioning and try to shop at off-peak times.
2) Use a home delivery service such as an internet supermarket to save you the hassle.

Toddlers:
1) If you already have a busy toddler, rushing around with him means you won’t get a chance to relax – organise reciprocal babysitting with friends to give yourself a break.

2) At home, join in with your toddler’s paddling pool to cool your feet down; try to stay in the shade in the garden and invest in a large umbrella.

3) Try cool food such as jelly and ice cream for hot days (though make sure the ice cream is pasteurised and doesn’t contain raw eggs).

Clothes - Bare what you dare!:
1) Looser styles let the air circulate, and natural fabrics such as cotton, linen and silk let your skin breathe better.

2) Your feet get hotter in warm weather and may swell, so wear flat comfy shoes and use a cooling foot gel or spray.

3) If your hair’s long, keep it off your face and shoulders to cool you down.
