Safest confined area in the Red Sea

The safest and largest Confined Water facility in the Red Sea has just been completed next to the Red Sea Diving College in Sharm el Sheikh. A clever system of floating pipes and buoys has just been installed – and now only divers, swimmers and snorkellers can use the area. In the past it had been possible for pedaloes, small boats and windsurfers to occasionally enter the area by skimming across the ropes that previously cordoned-off the area just off the beach.

Long term instructor Chris Armstrong - the manager of the project - told us that “the idea was to build something more permanent to keep out potentially hazardous boats and to make it much safer for all our divers”.
Chris explained that other dive centres are welcome to use the facility but they are asked to abide by the safety guidelines of Red Sea Diving College - for example ascents are to be made only within the confined area.

Within the area there are several ascent and descent lines and an array of useful training aids that make this area probably the best and safest learn-to-dive facility in the Red Sea. This section of Naama Bay is in the process of transition – as well as the safety aspect, it is becoming one of the most interesting Confined Water facilities in the Red Sea.

Last year a large number of Amphoras and four metal structures were sunk and divers can now see a new reef emerging from these objects. On the Amphoras small Raspberry coral colonies are starting to develop – Boxer shrimps have also found a new home. A large moray eel was found in one of the pots recently.

A College team has also given nature a bit of a push - transplanted corals have begun to be attached to the metal structures. This project, carried out in conjunction with Dr Mohammed Salem - Head of the Ras Mohammed National Park - will be completed in August. The corals were taken, under strict guidelines, from the soon-to-be salvaged wreck of the Million Hope.

It is a challenge for the diving community to create interesting and safe training for their guests. At Red Sea Diving College they seem to have got it about right.

With Golden 5 City next door offering its floodlit tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball courts, health centre, a scuba snorkeling and windsurf centre, boat excursions, 150 shops, 750 metre private beach… the masterplan for Golden Park Residences could have been justified to exclude on-site amenities, however this has not been the case. Purchasers within the development will not have to leave its confines in order to access a private fitness centre with Spa, aquapark, kid's clubs, tennis and volleyball courts as well as internet access and satellite television. This all adds up to a perfect scenario for holidays and also for investment.

Confident child

Want to bolster your little one's self esteem? Learn important parenting techniques that will help your child feel stronger, smarter, and more self-assured.

Sit by any playground and observe the children running, jumping, and climbing over and under the equipment. It's not hard to notice the daredevils who soar headfirst down the slide and then leap from the hanging bars to begin twirling feverishly on the tire swing. These kids know no fear! Then there are the cautious playground participants. They slowly walk across the shaky wooden bridge. It takes them time to get the courage to slide down the fireman's pole. What makes the difference? Could it be self-confidence?

We all want our kids to eagerly participate in school, join other kids in the playgroup, or volunteer to play on the soccer team. Yet often—as well meaning as we are—parents undermine their children's ability to develop self-confidence. If a preschooler runs into a room carrying a glass of water, what's the first thing most parents say? You'll usually hear," Be careful, you might spill that!" instead of "It's a good idea to walk when carrying a glass of water." Why encourage a self-fulfilling prophecy by telling Susie she'll spill the water?

Let's revisit the playground. Listen carefully and you're bound to hear some mother yelling, "Jordan, stay close by where I can see you, you might get hurt!" Yet that's no way to build a child's confidence! When our daughter was three, my husband found her trying to climb an apple tree in the backyard. Rather than tell her she was going to fall, he spent time showing her how to select branches for holding and standing. They climbed another ten feet, much to Sondra's delight. The rule is she can climb trees when an adult is nearby—which has resulted in numerous father-daughter, tree-climbing expeditions.

Here are some ways that you can help your young child develop confidence in herself and her abilities.

Be a Positive Role Model
How often as adults do we say, "I'll never be able to make that presentation next week," or, "I wish I knew how to use this new computer program. I'll never learn!"? Children need to see parents with a can-do attitude. They gain coping skills by hearing parents express their own self-confidence: "The boss asked me to give a Power Point presentation next week. I've never done it, but I found this great magazine article that has some tips. I'll give it a try." If things don't work out, keep a positive attitude. I remember taking a risk and auditioning for a part in a community theater play. I didn't get even a minor part, but I did let my daughter see me stepping out of my comfort zone and making the best of the situation. While I wasn't headed for Broadway, I instead became involved with the theater by volunteering as box office manager.

Shaving

Shaving first became popular during World War II when nylon stockings were in short supply and bare legs became a trend that has yet to cease. Today, more and more women are turning to waxing and some are trying laser hair removal (see how my experience went), however, shaving remains the least expensive form of hair removal. Here are 10 tips and tricks to ensure you're doing it the right way and cutting down on the nicks and irritation so common to shaved skin.

1. The trick to shaving is to wet your skin and let it soften from the heat and moisture. You don't want to shave dry skin. Shaving is a natural exfoliator and you'll clog up the razor with dead skin while putting yourself at risk for nicks. 2. There's no need to waste your money on shaving creams formulated especially for women. They are virtually the same as the creams sold for men. (Now if you can just find a scent you can live with).

3. You are going to have to experiment with razors until you find the perfect one for you. Ask your friends for recommendations and look for a razor with lubricated strips, pivoting heads and spring-mouonted multiple blades. I've sampled several types and varieties and was amazed at how different each feels. My favorite? The Gillette Venus razor. Another great and new bet: Schick Quattro for Women, which has four super-thin blades and a pivoting head.

4. Be sure to change razors or cartridges on a regular basis, a dull blade can lead to nicks. Also, it's best not to borrow your guy's razor. His hair is coarser and will dull a blade. (Plus, don't men typically hate it when women borrow razors?)

5. Be sure to exfoliate your skin before shaving. It gets rid of all the dead skin cells that could clog up your razor, preventing a close shave.
