A Restaurateur Mark Milson went to Egypt to scuba-dive and loved it so much, he moved there for good. Mark, 45, runs a group of restaurants in the Red Sea resort of Hurghada. He said: "I am in dreamland. I went to Egypt because I had heard great things about Red Sea diving and I fell in love with it.
Mark trained as a chef in London and went on to own four restaurants and a franchise in Aberdeen. Having lived and worked in Greece, Hong Kong, Australia and Malaysia, he was on the lookout for properties so he could set up a restaurant overseas.
He said: "I thought Greece would be a natural choice, then I considered south-east Asia. When I was in Hurghada I bought a property from www.therightmoveabroad.com and got talking to the developer about further ventures. "He asked me to open restaurants on his developments and the more I looked into it, the more it seemed a good idea."
Mark has since opened three restaurants and a deli. He moved to Egypt earlier this year but comes home to watch Rangers every six weeks. Girlfriend Paula is running his two restaurants in Aberdeen before joining him later in the year.
Mark said: "In Egypt, prices are beginning to rise but your money still goes a long way.
It cost me £70,000 to set up three restaurants and a deli and my three-bed apartment cost around £30,000.
"It is a hell of a lot cheaper to operate here and I simply could not have done this back home. The lifestyle is very different. You wake up to sunshine every day and I can go scuba-diving whenever I want.

Let's face it: as adults, we're usually cooking because we have to. But to a child, a kitchen is a mad scientist’s laboratory. Stuff gets measured and mixed; liquids are poured into beakers; ordinary substances are transformed, as if by magic, into delicious edible wonders. Isn't it time you took on an apprentice or two? A few simple tricks can make it easy and safe for your kids to help you in the kitchen.
Tips for Teaching Kids to Cook
1. Give them a birds-eye view.
Provide each child with a stable step-stool, just high enough to allow them to safely reach the counter or table. Even if there isn’t actually anything for them to do, they’ll still enjoy watching you cook and it’s a great opportunity to chat.
2. Dress for the job.
The right outfit makes all the difference. A kid-sized apron, a mini chef’s hat or just one of dad’s big old shirts will help keep clothes clean and get your little assistant into the cooking mood.
3. Get everyone helping.
Assign cooking tasks to your kids depending on age, ability and level of experience in the kitchen. Even a toddler can help wash vegetables and tear the ingredients for salads. Three- or four-year-olds can help mix ingredients in a bowl, form the dough for cookies by hand or roll meatballs. Five- to seven-year olds are usually able to measure ingredients, cut veggies and cheese with a blunt knife or even locate ingredients by reading the labels. And children eight years old and up are generally capable of using a microwave or oven with supervision, peeling and cutting up vegetables, shredding cheese and preparing kid-friendly recipes (below) almost entirely by themselves.
4. Offer some tools.
Give your child his or her very own set of measuring cups and spoons. Brightly coloured plastic utensils make it fun to measure and mix ingredients. If you have more than one child, make sure each one has a different colour to avoid squabbles.
5. Think small – really small.
While you’re busy making a family-sized macaroni and cheese casserole, let your child spoon some of the mixture into a tiny baking dish, just for his own personal self. Invest in a miniature muffin pan so your child can make little baby muffins, or pick up a mini loaf pan in which to bake a kid-sized banana bread. Everyone knows that tiny food is just more fun to make and eat.
6. When in doubt, skewer it!
Kids love food on a stick. It’s fun to make, fun to eat and looks really cool. Even your littlest cook can spear cubes of cheese, cherry tomatoes or chunks of ham on a bamboo skewer. Arrange them on a plate with a puddle of dipping sauce (try Dijon mustard and mayo or creamy Italian dressing) and voila, appetizers are served.
7. And finally – keep your sense of humor!
Spilled some milk? Dropped an egg? It’s all part of the process. After all, cleaning up can be fun too! |

1. Choosing a bedroom color
The bedroom is a place where one relaxes. Use plenty of warm yellow, earthy green or rich terracotta colors to bring in positive energies. Red does wonders if you are looking for a happier sex and love life while metal will bring in efficiency in your work. The colors are to be used specifically in a particular location; we suggest that you seek a Feng Shui expert’s opinion before making any changes. You are doing this for positivity, not for everything to backfire!
2. Choosing the right furniture
Make the best of Feng Shui by choosing the right kind of furniture at your work place and home. Remember that furniture that makes you feel edgy like old sofas, stiff chairs and protruding coils block positive energy flow, not to mention the fact that they look tacky.
Try to place furniture that is comfortable and remove that which in not required. If you are buying furniture for your office, buy furniture with rounded edges. The rounded edges usher in creativity. Get plenty of plants to stay connected with nature. There is a lot that you can do. You don’t have to redo the entire place. Tiny additions like plants or re-adjustment of your desk can do wonders. The trick is to do the right thing.
3. Adjusting light levels
The levels of lights you choose determine the level of wakefulness and emotion for the people around the light.
Go for natural lights from windows as they bring in positive energy. If this is not possible, then try using candles and natural white light bulbs. Avoid fluorescent and halogen lamps.
4. Purchasing auspicious figures
Dragons, frogs, coins, wind chimes and fountains are considered auspicious in Chinese Feng Shui.
Buying and keeping such auspicious Feng Shui items ignite the positive energies, which then play a powerful role in our lives. These objects attract things like power, money, wealth, health and affluence.
Hang 3 Chinese coins tied together with a red ribbon from the handle of your main door’s handle to usher in wealth. The ribbon’s length should be cut in series of 9’s i.e. 9 cm, 18 cm and so on.
5. Removing clutter
Not only Feng Shui but Vastu Shastra also talks about this useful tip. Remove all the clutter that is around at your home or work place. Keep your surroundings as clean as possible, as this will then let the positive energy flow in. In fact, clutter in the house symbolizes the clutter in the mind according to Feng Shui. So, all you pack rats, throw the useless stuff away or better still, donate it to some charity.
These are just a handful of tips that are not expensive. All it takes to follow them is a bit of rearrangement of things in your house. With the kind of happiness it brings in, the effort is definitely worth it.
