Diving and Snorkeling in Nuweiba |

Nuweiba and its divesites are pretty different to other divesites on the Sinai. In the southern areas of the Sinai, like Sharm El Sheikh, you will find mostly wall diving. In the north east part of the Sinai a landscape with canyons and valleys mixed up with sea grass areas and underwater mountains is the typical surrounding.
Nuweiba diving centres and dive schools offer divers of all calibres very much in the way of diving and many shallow reefs - perfect for snorkelers, dive beginners and experienced scuba divers. In the national park of Nuweiba also drop off diving for those of you who like to go a bit deeper is offered.
The dive sites are not as spectacular as those in Dahab or Sharm El Sheikh, they do however offer a wider variety of life, and have ideal conditions for the underwater photographer.. you will rarely encounter divers other than those from your group, this allows you to take wide frame of makro photos in complete peace. There is one very special dive site here, "MFO - The Sinker", there is a buoy that has been sunk here, which reminds one of a television tower. The National Park Abu Ghalum, one of the three national parks of the Sinai, offers cave diving, drop off diving. some drop offs go down to 120m, what lies beyond that is still unknown.
The best known dive sites probably are:
* Ras Shatany (10 km north of Nuweiba)
* MFO - The Sinker (close to the port)
* Pipeline (close to the base of the MFO)
* Ma'Serik (10 km south of Nuweiba)
* Ras Mamlah (35 km south of Nuweiba)
These trips are offered by all Dive Centres in Nuweiba, as the prices differ for each centre, please inform yourself in advance. As well all dive schools and centres in Nuweiba teach diving according to internationally accepted standards and are checked regullary by the Egyption Underwater & Lifesaving Federation and the Ministry of Tourism in Cairo.
Complete dive safaris are offered, often in combination with diving, jeep and camel trips. Nitrox dives are currently offered by Emporer Divers and Diving Camp Nuweiba. Technical diving is still taking its first steps in Nuweiba, inform yourself in advance about how far the needed infrastructure allows this.
Wreck diving is not possible in Nuweiba due to the unfortunate (or fortunate?) lack of wrecks, boat diving is currently only offered at the Diving Camp Nuweiba.

Earth Day, the largest annual environmental event worldwide, took place on April 22nd this year and HEPCA joined up with many dive centres, hotels, events, organizations and individuals in a series of special events throughout the Red Sea.
Over in Safaga, the Sol Y Mar Paradise Resort hosted a full day’s program involving staff and guests, which included tree planting, a walk-a-thon and an interdepartmental clean up competition. A special Paradise exhibition was organized with a presentation on the Resort’s environmental activities and conservation tips. Guests were encouraged to submit Earth Day messages of hope and also contribute to a special mural. The day ended with a special movie showing, animation show and the presentation of awards to the day’s most active participants.
Also in Safaga, diving centres including Menadive, Luts Bay, Orca Safaga, Safaga Paradise, Shams Safaga, Holiday Inn and Aqua Diving Centre joined together to clean up the Safaga reefs and beach areas.
In Hurghada, HEPCA joined a group of 15 Marriott employees on a boat trip to Magawish Island. This was not your average day out however, as the team collected an incredible 175 mesh bags full of rubbish. After an environmental briefing, the team separated into two groups, one collecting rubbish and the second sealing the bags and moving them to the meeting point. The rubbish was delivered to the Marriott marina and then taken away for sorting and recycling.

Egyptian club Zamalek says it wants around $12 million (£6 million) for striker Amr Zaki
The Egypt star is a target for English Premier League team Wigan Athletic.
Wigan manager Steve Bruce has already had an offer of more than $8 million (£4 million) turned down.
"We met with club officials, but we still need to decide on financial matters," Zamalek President Mamdouh Abbas said.
Zaki helped Egypt triumph at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, scoring four goals in the tournament.
He was also in the team which claimed victory on home soil in the previous tournament two years ago.
In all he has scored 21 goals in 40 international matches, on top of his impressive club form.
He scored twice in front of Bruce as Zamalek earned a 5-1 win over Aluminium on Friday.
Zaki himself is keen on a move to the Premier League.
"We know that Zamalek have other offers for Zaki," his agent Mohamed Saied said. "But the player wishes to play in the Premier League, rather than any other European competition."
Zaki had a short spell with Lokomotiv Moscow in 2006, before returning to Cairo to sign for Zamalek.
Steve Bruce has made it clear he wants his side to score more goals next season.
"I think the most important thing for a club like ours is to get a striker who can make a difference," he said, before his interest in Zaki was revealed.
"That's where I would spend the money if I could source one."

Suzanne Mubarak opens 3rd branch of Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Hurghada |

First Lady Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak opened Monday5/5/2008 a library in el-Gona village in Hurghada that will offer a chance for Hurghada visitors to get acquainted with Bibliotheca Alexandrina activities. Mrs. Mubarak also laid the foundation stone of a nursing school in Gouna.
The Sawiris Foundation for Social Development established the two institutions. The foundation was founded in April 2001, with an endowment from the Sawiris family, to serve the goals of extending grants to fund projects implemented by partners, fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship and supporting the creation of self-employment opportunities in addition to providing seed money for the start up of micro and small enterprises.
Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak inspected the main hall of the Hurghada library where visitors could read on computers about 55,000 of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina books which were digitally registered.
She also visited a cultural panorama hall where the 5,000 old Egyptian heritages could be screened in an attractive way and Bibliotheca Alexandrina activities could be followed up while taking place.
Mrs Mubarak also opened a nursing school for tertiary education where students will study for three years to be able to join the labor market.

4 Ways to Spark Their Imaginations

Do you want to raise a creative child? One who can come up with amazing ideas, amuse himself, solve problems and enjoy the magical side of childhood? Thought so. Problem is, today it seems like every toy and every children’s program focuses on education, not creativity.
But you can still foster the creative spark. Start by tweaking your attitude: while rules and statements such as, "No, no, the sky should be blue," can halt creative thinking, being open and non-judgmental encourages it.
And don’t be concerned that focusing on creativity will leave education behind. In fact, creative children are often better learners. "Creativity lets children develop their skills in a way that works for them," says Karen Halpern, a speech pathologist and creator of Thumbprint Adventures, a creative play-based program in Toronto. Her own six-year-old, for instance, can do basic multiplication: she figured it out on her own through playing.
Whether your goal is to raise the next Einstein, or just have a youngster who can tolerate long rainy days, here are four ways to light the creative fire under your child.
Free Playing:
If you’re finding that every night of the week is packed with soccer practice, piano lessons and tutoring, consider opening up some time for free play. "Just relax and let your children play as children," says Halpern. Avoid toys that can only be played one way or come with a long list of instructions. Instead, opt for things such as building blocks, dough, crayons and paper or just kitchen utensils. "Free play is about letting children solve their own problems, as opposed to showing them what the answer is," she says.
Music:
The greatest thing about being creative with music is how much fun it is. "It’s immediate, the response kids have," says Mike Whitla, director of Rainbow Songs, a preschool music program. Encourage your child to sing (and make up their own words or use funny voices), dance and try their hand at various instruments. And remember that the more children learn about music — how it works, how to play an instrument — the more they’ll be able to creatively experiment with it..
Storytelling:
Every child loves books, and every parent loves a child who reads: they’ll do well in school. But books and stores are also a great source of creative fun. When children learn they have the ability to take stories off the page, they feel empowered to let their own amazing ideas take over. Children of almost any age have the ability to compose their own tales, they just need some encouragement from you.
Drawing, Coloring and Crafts:
Isn’t doing crafts just creative by nature? Not always. Choose hand-on projects that include a component that your child contributes. Sometimes that’s as basic as choosing the colors they wish (No, the sky does not have to be blue!), or doing a project where you don’t have to follow the instructions word-for-word to get a fun result.
