Opening Report ITB Berlin 2007: Record number of exhibitors 10,923 exhibiting companies from 184 countries.

The Red Sea was also represented at the ITB to promote tourism in Egypt.
Spot Local met many representatives during the fair and formed a lot of new business relationships.

Visitors to the 41st ITB Berlin could obtain a complete review of everything currently on offer from the travel industry ranging from service providers such as hotels and airlines to tour operators, and individual countries and regions. The ITB Berlin continues to grow and the number of exhibitors has risen by one more percentage point since last year.

	Marriage in ancyent Egypt

Athenian men evinced little respect oraffection for women and delayed marriage until well into their thirties, but most Egyptian men were eager to follow the advice of the wisdom literature urging them to take a wife while still young so they could found a household and raise a family. Most men were married by the age of twenty to girls who might have been as young as fifteen. There was an age difference, but usually not more than two or three years.

One of the more curious mysteries in that civilization is the complete absence of information on the act of getting married. Legal papyri always identified a woman as the “wife of …” and there are many documents attesting to a couple’s divorce. Weddings in Ptolemaic Egypt were often accompanied by very elaborate parties, but there is nary a word from the Pharaonic period about a marriage ceremony. We may assume that there was a moment before which a couple was not married and after which they were married, but we have no clear evidence to tell us what happened.

The Marriage Stele of Ramses II says, “Then his Majesty saw that she was beautiful of face and like a goddess. It was a great mysterious, wonderful and fortunate affair.” This has been taken as proof by a small handful of scholars that some sort of ceremony was required to make a marriage, but most would argue that the “affair” in question was nothing more than the initial meeting of the king and his future wife. Egyptians loved a party and it is hard to imagine them ignoring such an obvious excuse, but not only is their no evidence of a ceremony, there is no evidence of a celebration either.

	Dave has become a local celebrity; if you are diving in the Red Sea, keep a look out for Dave.

“Dave will already be known to many divers who have dived in the Red Sea at Ras Mohammed, where he has been a regular around Shark and Yolanda reefs for some years. Dave is easily recognized, as a portion of his rear shell was missing above his right flipper from an old injury.

For the last few weeks this regular to the area had been noticed only by his absence. It came to the attention of James Tunney on the16th of January this year what had happened to him. Dave was found towards the end of last year with new injuries to his shell caused by a collision with a boat propeller. He was found by divers from Sinai Divers, taken from the bottom and handed over to the Ras Mohammed National Park for safe keeping. The Park did what they could to treat the wounds, but not having a suitable pool available, asked if Dolphinella (not the most popular place with divers in Sharm) could accommodate it.
The resident doctor, Alexander, ensured that the wound was kept clean and Dave the turtle was first placed in a small kids play pool and an attempt was made to feed it once using sea grass but without success. The pool was broken by Dave and the turtle’s next destination was a kids’ inflatable boat filled with water to only half way up the turtle’s shell exposing the upper portion of the shell to the day’s sun. The next stop was to a larger pool but with the same level of water and still no midday shade. At this point all concerned thought they were doing the right thing simply keeping the wound dry and clean. No further attempts were made to feed him, as they thought it was normal not to eat, that the turtle was simply in hibernation, as with a tortoise. It is true that Turtles can go for long periods without food if well fattened, and not injured or feeling sick when they need their strength most!

	18 muffins

Ingredients: 2 cups flour / 2 teaspoons baking soda / 2 teaspoons cinnamon / 1/4 teaspoon salt / 3/4 cup white sugar / 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed / 6 medium carrots (use enough carrots to measure 2 cups shredded) / 1 1/4 cups raisins / 1/4 cup sweetened flaked coconut / 3 large eggs / 1 cup vegetable oil / 2 teaspoons vanilla / 1 large granny smith apples.
Preparation:
1. Set oven to 350 degrees (oven rack to second-lowest position).
2. Grease 18 muffin cups or line with paper liners.
3. In a large bowl sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt, then add in both sugars.
4. Coarsley chop enough carrots to measure 2 cups packed.
5. Add in the carrots with coconut and raisins to the flour mixture; toss well to combine.
6. In a bowl whisk together eggs, oil and vanilla.
7. Peel, core and shred the apple, the add the shredded apple with the egg mixture to the flour mixture; stir JUST until combined well.
8. Divide the mixture evenly between the muffin tins filling almost three-quarters full.
9. Bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until muffins test done.
