History of Egypt...

WOMEN IN ANCIENT EGYPT

Egypt treated its women better than any of the other major civilizations of the ancient world. The Egyptians believed that joy and happiness were legitimate goals of life and regarded home and family as the major source of delight.
It was taken for granted in the ancient world that the head of the house was the man. The true meaning of this fact for women varied considerably from one place and time to another, and the impact was much greater if the law drew a distinction between a man and a woman. Marriage and offspring were always considered desirable, but in some societies wives were simply domestic servants and offspring acquired importance only when they grew up. Undoubtedly there were a number of very strong willed women who disregarded custom and ruled their families with the sheer force of their personalities, but they were the exception.
Egyptian women were fortunate in two important ways:
- While women could become Pharaoh only in very special circumstances, they were otherwise regarded as totally equal to men as far as the law was concerned. They could own property, borrow money, sign contracts, initiate divorce, appear in court as a witness, etc. Of course, they were also equally subject to whatever responsibilities normally accompanied those rights.
- Love and emotional support were considered to be important parts of marriage. Egyptians loved children as people and not just as potential workers and care-takers. Read More... |

Miss Deutschland 2007 - Grand Finale
Endorsing the beauty of the destination and the success of the developers of the Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Resort to deliver a world class quality product, the Resort had been chosen to host the finals for the Miss Deutschland 2007 beauty contest. For the first time in history since the contest event was commenced in 1909, the final contest took place outside Germany, in Egypt, on the Red Sea, in the beautiful city of Hurghada and in the newly opened Steigenberger Al Dau Resort, where the winners of the beauty contests in each of the sixteen German states competed for the title of Miss Deutschland 2007.
The event was a real success. More than 500 people attended, we had Keith Tynes from the Platters (www.keithtynes.de) doing show acts and some wonderful singing. The girls had to present in evening dr esses and evening swim wear and each answer one question.
THE WINNER
18-year old school girl Svetlana Tsys outcompeted all of her 16 competitors at the finals to the Miss Deutschland 2007 election at the Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Hotel in Hurghada on the Red Sea last night.
The 1.80 m tall beauty had already won her first Miss title at the tender age of 14. However, the girl with the heart-shaped face had to return the crown at the time when it was found that she had not yet reached the compulsory minimum age of 16.
This time round Svetlana, who competed as Miss Ostdeutschland (Miss East Germany) at the finals on the Red Sea, had more reason to smile. When she presented herself in her pink evening gown, she did so in German, English and Russian. Answering a question about the role of women in today's society she said: "Many things have changed to the better. At least we now have a lady chancellor in Germany, Ms. Merkel."

Veggie Tales Puppets
Make several different VeggieTales puppets and let the children act out the different videos or make up their own stories.
What You Need:
- White felt
- Black felt
- Different colors of felt as needed for various characters
- Scissors
- Tacky glue
- Ruler
How To Make It:
- Measure your child's hand.
- Add four inches to that measurement.
- This new measurement is the minimum width to make your puppet.
- Cut out 2 shapes of the character you wish to create. For example, if you were making Bob the Tomato, you would cut out two circles.
- Use the white felt, black felt, and appropriate colors to make the face of the character. Again, if you were making Bob, you could cut out a red nose, black and white eyes, white mouth, and the green stem.
- Glue these pieces to one of the shapes you previously cut out.
- Glue the 2 shapes (front and back) together by applying glue around the edge of one piece and attaching it to the other. MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE A HOLE FOR YOUR CHILD'S HAND.
- Have fun with your new puppets!

Baked Sea Bream With Potatoes

Preparation Time: 15 min
Cooking Time: 45 min
Serves: 2 - 4
Ingredients:
- 2 sea bream, gut and scales removed
- 500 g potatoes
- 2 garlic cloves, sliced
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 lemon, sliced
- 2- 4 sprigs fresh rosemary (about 3 inches long)
- olive oil
- salt and pepper
- fresh parsley, chopped
Preparation:
- Preheat oven (430 F, 220 C).
- Wash and peel the potatoes. Slice them (about 1/4 inch thick).
- Mix the potato slices with as less olive oil as possible. They should only be coated and not soaked. Arrange the slices on an oven-proofed dish, so that later the fish could be placed on them. Salt them to taste with salt and a little pepper.
- Put them in the oven and bake them covered with aluminium foil for 15 minutes.
- Meanwhile prepare and clean fish. Wash and pat dry. Remove pectoral and ventral fins.
- Sprinkle some salt into stomach cavity. Put two slices of lemon, a few slices of garlic and one sprig rosmary into cavity. Brush on both sides with a little olive oil.
- After 15 minutes take potatoes out of the oven and sprinkle with slices of green onions and the rest of garlic.
- Place fish on the potatoes. Sprinkle with some salt and put back in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes or until fish is done (Fish is done when the dorsal fin can easily be removed).
- If the fish gets to dry while baking, brush with a little olive oil.
- When fish is done take out of the oven and sprinkle with parsley and serve hot with additional slices of lemon.
- NOTE: Serve fish as a whole or fillet prior to serving.
