Diving with Children

Have you been putting off your dive vacation because you have children? Shame on you. with a little planning effort and a few extra euros/dollars, you can turn that dive trip into a family vacation!

First, get your kids interested in scuba diving. Toys, T.V. programs, videos and CD-ROMs are available. They teach children about marine life and diving. Kids can start out as snorkelers, ensuring good water skills. It will also keep them interested in the idea of becoming certified divers. A child can become a certified junior diver at the age of twelve. Kids as young as three can be taught to snorkel. They can learn skin diving skills through "games" such as picking up toys from the bottom of the pool and swimming through hoops.

When choosing a family dive travel destination, keep in mind the ages of your children. Choose a destination that is suitable for your family needs. Many vacation packages include activities and supervision for young children while you enjoy your dive. These types of trips require planning. Find out ahead of time whether the child care providers are certified, what activities are offered, and how safe the area is for children.

Transport: Cheap tricks

By Frederik Richter

While the market for charter flights to Egypt has always been pretty active, low-cost airlines have finally added Cairo to their list of destinations.

Hapagfly , a subsidiary of German travel giant Hapag Lloyd, is offering three weekly flights between Munich and Cairo for €179 round-trip. Hapag Lloyd already has an extensive charter flight network to Egypt. Belgian carrier Jet Only is serving the Brussels to Cairo connection twice a week with fares starting at €89 for a single trip. It is also offering flights to Hurghada and Sharm Al Sheikh, with tickets starting at €59. The flight to Munich is the most popular and should be booked well in advance.

The Middle East's first low-cost regional airline, Sharjah-based Air Arabia , has also expanded its flight schedules. It has been serving Alexandria Al Nozha daily and Assiut twice a week since early 2004, and recently added Luxor and Sharm Al Sheikh. Emirates airline operates out of Sharjah airport close to Dubai. Via this hub, it serves Aleppo, Beirut, Damascus, Bahrain, Doha, Muscat, Khartoum, Sanaa, Mumbai in India, Colombo in Sri Lanka and four more destinations in the Middle East outside of Egypt. Depending on the flight date, a round-trip ticket from Alexandria to Sharja costs around $300.

Mind you, reasonable tickets to Europe can also be found with regular airlines these days. On the Danish airline Air Maersk, one-way tickets to Copenhagen go for LE1,095, twice a week. The airline serves destinations across Europe from Copenhagen. Air Malta offers two flights a week from Cairo to Malta under its summer schedule. Once in Malta one can reach a surprisingly large number of European and American cities with ease.

The First Annual Café Del Mar Tupper-Party

On Wednesday 29th of June at 11 a.m.

You are invited to join the first annual Tupperware party at the Cafe del Mar.

Anja (the Tupper lady) will be on hand to demonstrate the newest, funkiest and most useful little plastic gadgets that we all love and can't live without (and don't forget that Tupperware is 50%-70% cheaper in Egypt than anywhere else in the world)

The 'doo' will last a couple of hours and of course in good old Café del Mar tradition there will be free refreshments and yummy little bitsies served.

If you would like to join us please be so kind and give Anja Prehler-Osman (the Tupper lady) a quick call on 012 715 4400 so we have some idea on how many sandwiches to make.

See you there....Andy & Harry (Café del Mar)
