Lana and Mercurio: these names are standing for a german/egyptian multitalented couple living and working in Hurghada.

Lana is professional oriental Dancer and Teacher since 1992. She started in Germany with her career and was performing and teaching as well in Denmark and Finnland.

In Hurghada she offers an Oriental Dance Course in Allas Dancestudio, Kottas West Side (opposite Marlin Inn Hotel) every second sunday at 7.30 pm. In this course every woman can discover the soul of the most female and oldest dance in the world. „Don’t care for your age, figure or shape: just be a woman and enjoy dancing for yourself!“

studied originally to be teacher for history and literature and is giving Arabic Lessons for foreigners in Hadaba.

He is also artist from his blood: his Hennatattoos are full of beauty and fantasy. He is using only the real Hennapowder without any chemical additions – thats why his Henna stains redbrown instead of black. (Only chemical – and mostly poisoness- stuff can give a dark result. Never the natural Henna colours black!)
Together they are performing a very special and unique show:
High-class Oriental Dance from Lana, wich is accompanied by Mercurios Tablaplay, a Sworddance Duet, witch is telling you a story from 1001 night and Lanas Dance with huge wings from Isis, the ancient egyptian godess of love. Totally new in Egypt: the eyecatching Light- & Fireshow!

Since 2004 both of them are working together and performing with glowing and burning sticks and torches. The fast turning and moving from equipment and dancers produce incredible circles of fire and light in the air – faster than your eye can follow.
The professional choreographies and the combination from Dance, Light & Fire make their show to a successful event!

Jordan Tourism Board outlines plans for a US$1.8 billion industry

The Jordan Tourism Board plans to double the value of the Kingdom’s tourism economy in just six years. The JTB, which has recently published its 2004-2010 Jordan National Tourism Strategy, has revealed it aims to increase tourism receipts from the present-day JD570 million (US$814 million) to JD1.3 billion (US$1.85 billion) by 2010.

"Tourism is of vital importance to the national economy of Jordan," the Strategy acknowledges. "It is the Kingdom’s largest export sector, it is the second largest private sector employer and it is the second highest producer of foreign exchange. Tourism contributes more than US$800 million to Jordan’s economy and accounts for approximately 10% of the country’s gross domestic product."
In addition to doubling tourism earnings by the end of the decade, the Jordan Tourism Board also plans to: create more than 50,000 new tourism-related jobs taking the number employed by the industry from 40,791 last year to 91,719 in 2010; and boost the Jordanian government’s tax income by more than JD455 million (US$650) million.
To support the Strategy, the Jordanian government will allocate 4% of the country’s annual tourism receipts to international marketing, product development and human resources development. This contribution will more than double the current level of tourism investment.
Jordan’s target is the high-yield special interest market, and development initiatives will focus on niche markets such as cultural and religious tourism, eco-tourism, health and wellness, adventure, MICE and the cruise market.
"Jordan is a destination with many iconic tourist attractions, such as Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea," the Strategy says. Yet despite its advantages and its importance to the economy, Jordan’s tourism sector has potential to improve.

Parents & Kids

1. Give your child some paper, along with color pencils, Cray pas, watercolors, or pastels; ask her/him to draw any or all of the following:
  • how she/he is feeling
  • what happened
  • dreams
After she/he does the drawing, ask her/him to tell you something about it; describe it, tell you how she/he feels. You can listen and be supportive.
2. Take her/he to the museum if she would like to go. Look at paintings that are big and colorful (not real adult looking or serious); paintings that she/he will not find boring. You probably know what kind of things she/he likes. Be sure to go to the food court and the gift shop.
3. Draw and paint with her/him. She/he will enjoy it and it will be fun!
4. Collect lots of stuff in a box that you can make sculptures and art with; for example, clothes pins, pipe cleaners, fabric, paper clips, ribbons, lace, etc. Invite her/him to make something with these things; this could be a sculpture or a collage.

5. Look through books about artists that she/he might like; pick out paintings and drawings that you can use as examples of what kind of art to make. Understand how and why the artist painted what he or she did.

6. Play music that she/he likes while doing art; for example, a favorite song or singer.
